What We Do

For the past 20 years, Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga has diligently worked towards our vision, Te Haaro o te Kaahu ki Tuawhakarere, and the organisation will continue to be forward thinking in order to promote and protect Heretaungatanga in the future.

On your doorstep

Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga is located at Heretaunga Park Community Centre which places us in an urban setting but within 30 minutes of outlying Marae communities.  We have become an integral part of the community through our participation, outreach and presence in numerous community arenas.

Business as usual

Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga works alongside whānau/ hapū to identify their needs, encourage them to achieve realistic goals, and enable whānau/ hapū to recognise their potential.  We purposely align our services to meet the priority needs of the community and we endeavour to provide this in a seamless 'wrap-around' manner.

Good things take time

Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga is a local Māori authority with a robust and credible standing within local, regional and national decision-making realms.  This allows the organisation to contribute to important policy and planning forums on behalf of Heretaunga whānau, Marae and Hapū when appropriate.  In the past decade Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga has been able to consolidate service delivery and concentrate our attention on goals and aspirations for Ngāti Kahungunu ki Heretaunga that are not contract driven.

Who Do We Serve

The wider community which we serve is principally all Māori in Heretaunga.  Our Māori community is made up of those who affiliate with ngā Marae o Heretaunga by whakapapa as well as Māori who reside within our rohe.

However, this focus is not to the exclusion of Maata Waka, different peoples from ngā hau e whā (the four winds).  Our tikanga ensures that we manaaki (extend our hospitality to) all peoples.

We have a high participation rate by Pacific Island people and other non-Māori.

How We Do It

We work with communities, stakeholders and other providers to ensure the vision, mission, aspiration and needs of our collective communities can be filled.  To this end we work...
