Youth Parent Payment

Available to Young Parents aged 16-18, and carries a set of obligations.

Obligations include the recipient being

  • available for full-time study leading to Level 2 or higher qualifications
  • preferably be in a teen parent unit if there is a place available
  • work with a Youth Service provider to manage your money
  • attend a budgeting course; attend a parenting course
  • enrol your child with a medical centre or GP
  • register your child with a Well Child/Tamariki Ora provider for regular check-ups
  • have your child in an Early Childhood Centre while you are in education, training or work-based learning, or part-time work

As with the Youth Payment (YP), Te Taiwhenua o Heretaugna Rangatahi Services can assist with meeting all these requirements.

Access to this service can be by self referral and / or WINZ referral.
