Last Friday was a milestone for Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga.
Soon our vision for high-quality, accessible housing for whānau will come to fruition.
Waingākau Village, on the western edge of Flaxmere beside te Aranga Marae, is a modern, eco-friendly development of 120 homes, complete with shared communal areas including a food forest.
But this isn’t the first time TToH has stepped outside the boundaries of convention to meet community needs. Nearly six years ago, we opened our beautiful, purpose-built kaumātua whare, Āhurutanga, on the edge of Flaxmere Park. Based on the internationally-successful Abbeyfield model, it offers shared but independent living for up to 11 kaumātua. They remain well-connected to the general community while enjoying the security of comfortable, supported living.
It is a truly amazing place for our kaumātua.
The construction of Waingākau is now underway, and we here at TToH look forward to the day when families start moving in.
