Ko te whakamārama o te ingoa - The meaning behind the name 

The naming of this area is inspired by our Kahungunu moteatea “Pinepine Te Kura”

“...taku wahine purotū taku tane purotū kōrua ko te tau e!”

My beautiful woman my handsome man…It is through this union a family starts…

The use of ‘Te Wai’ is used to acknowledge tangata whenua & their spiritual connection to the many waters & the birthplace of Heretaunga.

Therefore we have the name ‘Te Wai Purotū’, a village to reconnect whānau back into the community & to create a vibrant & pleasant environment for all.
