Event Sponsorship
Nurturing Their Space Age Talent
Hawke’s Bay’s own science and robotics champions, The Blackbots, gained international notoriety earlier this year by winning second place in the Lego international science and robotics challenge in California.
It was a “David and Goliath” situation for the Blackbots. Aged only 10 and 11, they were up against 80 other teams of youngsters, some aged up to 15, from around the world.
Undeterred, The Blackbots beat off some stiff competition to win second place with their virtual reality project, designed to help astronauts stay in touch with their families while out in space.
Back at home and school, these Blackbots, who attend Mayfair and Lucknow schools, still love coming together for specialist workshops.
Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga is proud to acknowledge the skills and success of these tamariki. They are well down the path of our collective future.
